Nutmeg is the seed of the nutmeg tree. Nutmeg trees may exceed 60 feet in height and are grown widely in Grenada and Indonesia. Once the shell is removed from the seed it is dried in the sun. Here nutmeg can be bought as whole or in powder form. Nutmeg has been popular in Great Britain since the spice trades and are often found in sweet milky dishes such as custards and puddings. It is an excellent complement with vegetables such as onions cauliflowers spinach and potatoes. They can also be found in milk-based sauces fruitcakes pies and wine. Myristica fragrans.
