The dancing form of Shiva as Lord Nataraja is surrounded by a fiery arch or prahabhamandala with three separate levels. Each layer represents fire, (outside) earth, (middle) and water (inside). The dwarf, Apasmara, that Shiva is dancing upon represents ignorance. While dancing his cosmic dance of destruction Shiva is destroying ignorance in the world. Nataraja is wearing a beautiful head dress made from peacock feathers. Shiva holds a drum and fire in his hands. His right leg is held up in the most recognizable posture of all the Hindu Gods; Lord Nataraja!
