Also known Valeriana Wallichii and Tagar. It is the safe herbal alternative for the treatment of mild insomnia. This popular Ayurvedic herb is used as a sedative to promote sleep and has been used as a calmative agent for more than 500 years. Valerian in clinical studies has shown positive results with study populations showing improved experiences of sleep when taken nightly over 1 to 2 week periods. It also has been shown to be potentially more effective than pharmaceutical benzodiazepines because the effects of sleepiness are milder upon waking. Valerian can also be used to wean patients with mild insomnia from benzodiazepines.
Warning: Due to its relaxing effects avoid driving or operating heavy machinery after taking this herb. Do not use if you are taking other sedatives or tranquilizers without first consulting a health care professional. It is not recommended for those under the age of 18.
